Archon : The Light and the Dark était un jeu développé par Free Fall Associates qui modélisait vaguement le jeu d'échecs, avec un certain nombre d'ajouts au gameplay. Il a été programmé par Anne Westfall et initialement publié pour les ordinateurs Atari 8 bits en 1983. Il a été rapidement porté sur un certain nombre de systèmes différents et a été bien accueilli.
