Cosmic Dominion is a 2D space combat and real-time strategy game. The player pilots a flagship in direct ship-to-ship combat while expanding and defending a territory of planets across a galaxy. Each planet runs its own economy: it mines ore, builds infrastructure and defences, recruits crew from its population, fields a garrison of ships and pays its holder a share of its income. Planets can be won by investment, by breaching their defences and landing a boarding party, or by destroying them and settling the ruins. Rival AI factions led by commanders play under the same economic rules as the player, mining, trading, colonising and going to war. The game features weapons with distinct damage classes and upgrade tracks, ship and planet modules, periodic invasions by an Insectoid swarm hostile to every faction, and configurable galaxies with up to eight player slots, teams, map sizes, wraparound edges, difficulty settings and shareable seeds.
