Simulator, Strategy, Indie
Retro Empire is a first-person simulation game about running a second-hand video game store. Most stock comes from local sellers found through an in-game classifieds app, where the player haggles over the price before meeting them in person. Much of what comes in is dirty or broken, so consoles go to a workbench to be cleaned, taken apart, repaired with replacement parts, and tested before they are priced and put on the shelves. Customers arrive with their own budgets, compare prices, sell their old games to the store, and bring in faulty consoles for repair jobs. Arcade cabinets can be repaired and fitted with swappable game boards that are fully playable. Each day the store is open earns experience, and new levels unlock furniture, decorations, game and console rentals, wholesale orders, staff who help run the business, and a second venue that can be turned into an arcade hall.
